night. breaking into her san francisco home. assaulting and attempting to rape her. police say 25-year-old jovan jones was eventually tracked down. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. that may not have happened so quickly if not for a good samaratan getting involved. >> reporter: this is where the san francisco police department says. a 26-year-old woman was assaulted saturday night. alta street. a small road on telegraph hill with no outlets. at night. the woman was entering her home. when 25-year-old jovan jones of marin city snuck up on her. forced his way into the home and threw the woman to the floor. police say he demanded money and some her stuff. then, threatened to kill her and assaulted her. police say someone outside of the home saw what was happening. and called 9-11. when police arrived. investigators say jones jumped off the balcony and ran off. less than an hour and a half later. with help of a california highway patrol helicopter. police tracked jones down a few blocks away from the victim's home on green street. jones was booked into san francisco county jail o
-involuntary commitments to san francisco psychiatric services through 5150 holds. we also deal with the significant amount of numbers of diversions, we have a policy with the door clinic with a number of our officers, where we see a person who is potentially at the crust of being a threat to themselves or others, there is an intervention that allows us to not allow that to go further or become a criminal issue or become a psychiatric hold issue and we divert the persons to the clinic. the important thing to know is that a significant number of our calls to service were relative to persons who do have a mental elth issue and who are in a state of crisis come from the medical practitioners themselves. we are talking about not... the identification of the person, but the identification of the behavior. behavior has gone from a person who is managing some mental illness to a person who is now a threat to potentially to themselves and or others. and when they came a threat to others, that is when the medical professionals call us. and it is that point, that we have to recognize, that words do not always work.

it all in public. today a judge waded into the fight over a new public nudity ban in san francisco. city officials say it's a matter of public safety. nudity advocates say it's an attempt to cover up their constitutional rights. and while both sides battled in court, protesters bared their souls and a lot more on the courthouse steps. nbc bay area's kimberly little terry joins us with the latest on what happened inside and outside of that croom. >> raj, we should know by the end of the month whether it will be a crime to be naked on the streets of san francisco. today a federal judge said he would hand down his ruling on the constitutionality of a new anti-nudity law before it's set to take effect february 1st. public nudity activists who filed a federal lawsuit seeking to invalidate the new law argue it violates their first amendment rights. they say nudity is a form of expression. but in court today, the deputy city attorney argued that simply disrobing in public doesn't send any clear political message. instead she told the judge, it's a threat to public safety. >> there's concern abo

temperatures for us. 36 in santa rosa. novato. 46 in san francisco and 40 in concord. 39 in livermore as well as antioch and 43 in mountain view. here is a look at our forecast. freeze warnings in place for tonight. cold spell will continue through sunday and after that things will start to warm up. we will have dry conditions next week. freeze warnings, dark shaded purple. interior valley area, freeze warning in place until 8:00. temperatures there mid to low 30s. then we do have in the lighter shade of purple, a frost advisory near the bayshore line. this is in place until 8:00 a.m. sunday as well with lows anywhere from the low to mid-30s. so the entire bay area is being affected by this cold snap. overnight temperatures, we may need to adjust these, right now 27 for santa rosa and napa. 26 overnight and check out fairfield into the east bay and mid to upper 20s with livermore 26. then as we get close to the peninsula and the coastguard we'll go with temperatures in the 30s. 38 is for san francisco and 33 in oakland and one shy of freezing at 31. this is with some of those clouds migrating
